"To Preserve and Protect: Security Solutions for New York's Historical Records"

The New York State Historical Records Advisory Board, in partnership with the New York State Archives and National Historical Records and Publications Commission, has been developing “To Preserve and Protect: Security Solutions for New York’s Historical Records” over the past year. The project is two-fold: the first phase offers a free full-day training to historical records repositories in all nine regions of New York State, while the second phase will provide a comprehensive website detailing security issues and solutions for repositories of all sizes.
Our spring 2011 workshop schedule includes five trainings as outlined in the attached announcement. If you have already participated in one of our fall 2010 sessions, we encourage you to share this information with colleagues in the other regions. If you have not yet had an opportunity to attend, I have also attached a blank registration form for your convenience. Our workshops are rapidly filling up, but we do have some seats remaining on a first-come/first-served basis. Please note: if you are interested in participating in the New Paltz workshop, this Monday, 3/7, I can be reached on my cell phone at 916-384-6735 or via email through the weekend. On-site registration for any workshop is unavailable due to security concerns.
The initial draft of the website has been completed and will likely be launched in summer 2011. It is currently undergoing internal review, but we will conduct a “soft launch” and survey to obtain feedback from past workshop participants and interested partners in the late spring. Please be on the lookout for that announcement, as your suggestions will be invaluable to our development and delivery of this resource.
If you have any questions, as always, please do not hesitate to contact me. Your ongoing support of this work is greatly appreciated.
