Painting theft reconstructed for TV
TELEVISION producers yesterday staged a reconstruction of the theft of a Leonardo da Vinci painting from a Scottish castle.
Thieves snatched the Madonna with the Yarnwinder, estimated to be worth between £25 million and £50 million, from Drumlanrig Castle, near Dumfries, on 27 August.
The reconstruction took place yesterday and will be screened on BBC’s Crimewatch programme later this year.
During the raid, two men posing as tourists overpowered a female member of staff and grabbed the masterpiece before making off in a car. Insurers have issued a reward for information leading to the return of the painting.
Police have released an e-fit of one of the suspects and CCTV footage of the robbery.
