One of the West’s famous cider families, who had millions of pounds worth of paintings stolen, have defended their decision to go behind the backs of the police and pay “intermediaries” to get their stolen paintings back.
The Bulmer family did not tell detectives investigating the robbery at their home six years ago that private investigators had made a major breakthrough in the crime, and made contact with an unidentified person who had the paintings.
A total of 15 paintings were stolen from the country mansion of Esmond Bulmer, near Bruton in Somerset, back in 2009.
