Tortoises stolen, 3rd theft
By Esther Tan
TEN tortoises have been stolen from the Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum at the Chinese Garden.
It is the third time in two years this has happened.
Security camera footage showed two men making off with the reptiles at around 9.30pm on Saturday, said museum owner Connie Tan, 38.
They seemed to know which ones to take, she said, noting that the 10 were Indian Star Tortoises and Radiated Tortoises – ‘the more valuable and marketable ones’.
She declined to say how much they were worth, for fear of encouraging more thefts from the museum’s collection of about 1,600 reptiles, which are housed in glass tanks and ponds.
Miss Tan discovered the theft when she turned up to open the museum on Sunday.
