Prague – Police investigates theft of rare photos from technical museum

Prague, Jan 4 (CTK) – The police are investigating the theft of rare historical photographs that gradually disappeared from the archive of the Czech National Technical Museum (NTM) over a period of several years, Prague police spokesman Tomas Hulan told CTK yesterday.

Daily Hospodarske noviny (HN) wrote yesterday that some 150 unique historical photographs featuring Austro-Hungarian aviation themes have disappeared in private hands.
The originals were replaced with copies in the archives.
The damage inflicted is estimated at hundreds of thousands of crowns while experts say the historical damage is incalculable.
NTM director Karel Ksandr said the theft is one of the “skeletons” he found “in the cupboard” after he assuemd the post on December 1 last.
He told CTK museum employees uncovered the suspicious photos when digitising the archive last autumn.
Ksandr said the police investigate the case on suspicion of theft.
