If events continue at this rate and in this manner, I could become a firm believer in miracles, by the end of the year. First, there was the historical Ouagadougou Declaration by the French President, Emmanuel Macron, that African artefacts should be returned to Africa. (1) Then followed Nigeria’s astonishing roundabout turn statement that Nigerian and African artefacts should be returned unconditionally. (2) And now we have the most extraordinary report that Stéphane Martin, the President of the Musée du Quai Branly-Jacques Chirac, Paris, where most of the looted African arts are kept, is in favour of returning African artefacts to Africa.
