Jakarta – Rp 6 Billion Basoeki Painting Switched At Late Vice President’s Home
A Basoeki Abdullah painting worth billions of rupiah was stolen from the house of the late Vice President Mohammad Hatta and replaced with a replica, police and a member of Hatta’s family confirmed on Thursday.
Police are looking into the possibility that a former domestic worker who resigned about a year ago is responsible.
“We suspect a male domestic worker may have been involved,” Menteng Police Chief Sr. Comr. Djuwito Purnomo said, adding that police were looking for him in his Central Java hometown.
Hatta’s daughter Meutia Farida Hatta reported the theft to police on Dec. 27.
